The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Manila is looking for a staff member to fill a vacancy by January 2027

Desk Officer in the Political Section (locally employed)

The position is to be filled on a full-time basis (38,5 hours/week). The salary is paid according to the salary scheme applicable to the German Embassy in Manila.

The work includes:

• observation and analysis of political developments in the Philippines as well as the Northern Pacific Island countries of Palau, Micronesia and Marshall Islands
• preparing meetings on specific political topics
• preparing drafts for reports to HQ
• representing the German Embassy in political briefings with subsequent reporting
• initiating and supporting the implementation of human rights projects
• administrative support for German institutions
• protocol affairs including focal point for the preparation of high-level visits

The Embassy expects:

• post-graduate degree in political science, international relations or law
• at least three years of on the job-experience, preferably in an embassy or a government agency
• excellent command of English and Tagalog (written and spoken), command of German language is of advantage
• profound knowledge of the Philippine political system and current regional political developments
• excellent communication skills and good handling of social media
• excellent analytical skills and ability to analyse texts
• commitment, initiative and flexibility
• pleasure in working with people and capacity of teamwork
