Family reunification

Please submit the following documents for your application, one original with one copy of each original in paper format A4:

  • Your valid passport

  • One print-out of your duly filled and signed application form

  • Two biometrical passport photos, one of which glued to the application form

  • Visa fee 75 Euro, payable in PHP (fee is waived if your spouse is German or EU national)

  • Your birth certificate, issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). Should the birth certificate be unreadable, please submit also your birth certificate, issued by the Local Civil Registrar.

  • Your marriage certificate

  • If you married in the Philippines: PSA Index Certificate CRS Form No. 5 (Advisory on marriages)

  • If you married abroad: PSA Index Certificate CRS Form No. 4 (CENOMAR) or – if you registered your marriage in the Philippines - PSA Index Certificate CRS Form No. 5 (Advisory on marriages)

  • If you were divorced abroad and you are Filipino national: You need to have your foreign divorce court order recognized by the competent court in the Philippines, before you can legally marry again. Please submit: Marriage certificate of your previous marriage, foreign divorce court order and Philippine court order recognizing the foreign divorce court order

  • If your previous marriage was annulled in the Philippines: Marriage certificate of your previous marriage with an annotation of the annulment, annulment court decision with certificate of finality

  • If you were a widow(er): Marriage certificate of your previous marriage and PSA death certificate of your deceased spouse

  • A1 Certificate from an ALTE-certified language school (Goethe Institut, ÖSD, telc, TestDaF, ECL), not older than 1 year. The certificate is not required if your spouse is an EU national who does not have the German nationality and resides in Germany. For further exceptions please see here.

  • From your spouse: If your spouse is German: Copy of Identity Card. If your spouse is EU national, but not German: Copy of the passport, a current residence certificate and the work contract. If your spouse has no EU nationality: Copy of the residence permit card.

The application must be submitted personally at the German Embassy. If you are applying together with your children, please note that a separate appointment registration is required for each person.

  • A1 Certificate from an ALTE-certified language school (Goethe Institut, ÖSD, telc, TestDaF, ECL), not older than 1 year. The certificate is not required if your fiancé is an EU national who does not have the German nationality but who has residence in Germany

  • Copy of your fiancé’s identity card (if German) or copy of the fiancé’s passport plus current certificate of residence (if not German, but EU national) or copy of the fiancé’s passport and residence permit card (if non-EU national)

  • Formal declaration of obligation according to §§ 66-68 of the German Residence Law with the confirmation of the Immigration Office (“Ausländerbehörde”) that the declarant is financially capable.

  • Proof of a travel health insurance, valid for the first 90 days of your intended stay in Germany. The insurance must be valid in all Schengen countries and have a minimum coverage sum of 30.000 Euro.

  • Proof that the German parent had the German nationality when the child was born: Copy of the German identity card or passport which was valid on the day of the child’s birth

  • If available: Copy of your child’s German passport

  • If your parents were married, but one parent is deceased: Marriage certificate and PSA death certificate

  • If you join only one parent, but both parents share the legal custody: Personal appearance of the parent you are not going to join, at the German Embassy competent for his residence, or at VFS Manila or Cebu during the submission of the visa application in order to declare his consent with the family reunion. This declaration is not necessary if the parent you wish to join has the German or another EU nationality.

  • If you join your mother and your parents have not been married: CENOMAR or CEMAR of your mother.

  • From the parent you want to join: If your parent is German: Copy of the identity card. If your parent is EU national, but not German: Copy of the passport, a current residence certificate and the work contract. If your parent is a Non-EU national: Copy of the passport and the residence permit.

  • If you are 16 or 17 years old the day you submit your application and your parent is already a resident in Germany: C1 German Certificate from an ALTE-certified language school (Goethe Institut, ÖSD, telc, TestDaF, ECL). Alternatively, proof of your ability to integrate in Germany, for example due to your attendance at a German school in the Philippines or a former residence in Germany or in a country with similar standards. These proofs are not necessary if the parent you wish to join has the German or another EU nationality.

Your application must be submitted personally at VFS Global in Manila or Cebu. If you are applying together with your family, please note that a separate appointment registration is required for each person. Once you have obtained all necessary documents, please register for an appointment here.

If you are currently 15 or 17 years old and you only receive an appointment date on which you will already be 16 or 18 years old, make sure to send an informal letter to the Embassy by registered mail or fax requesting a visa for family reunion. The application must include the names, your date of birth, your address and the address of your parent in Germany, and the letter must be signed by the parent(s) having the legal custody. If the Embassy receives this application letter before the day you turn 16 or 18 years old, your application will be treated as if it had been submitted before your birthday.

The parents of a foreigner who works as a skilled worker in Germany, or the parents of the skilled worker's spouse, can apply for a visa for family reunification if the skilled worker's income is sufficient to cover their living expenses and availability of sufficient residential space.

  • Current and valid residence permit showing that the skilled worker is a reference person within the scope of § 36 para. 3 AufenthG: Copy of the residence permit in accordance with §§ 18a, 18b, 18c para. 3, 18d, 18f, 19c para. 2, 19c para. 4 sentence 1, 21 AufenthG or § 19c para. 1 AufenthG for employment as a senior employee, manager, company specialist, scientist, visiting scientist, engineer or technician in the research team of a visiting scientist or as a teacher

Education

General information

You can apply for a visa to complete an in-company vocational training or a training course at a vocational school in Germany acc. to § 16a I, III AufenthG, § 8 I BeschV.

If you are a graduate of at least two years of in-company vocational training or a vocational training school or a technical college or university education you can apply for a visa for further training in Germany acc. to § 16a I AufenthG, § 8 I BeschV.

Please submit the following documents for your application, one original with one copy of each original in paper format A4. (Exception: For Fast Track Applications, you can submit a copy of German documents instead of an original)

  • Your valid passport

  • One print-out of your duly filled and signed application form

  • Two biometrical passport photos, one of which glued to the application forms

  • Visa fee 75 Euro, payable in PHP

  • Pre-approval from the competent German employment authority OR pre-approval for the accelerated procedure for skilled workers of the competent foreigners authority (if available)

  • Your vocational training contract or further education agreement with details of the occupation you are training for, the duration of the training and the start date of the training, the number of weekly working hours, the training location and the amount of the training allowance. The contract must be signed, stating the place and date.

  • Training plan of your vocational or further training (if available)

  • Proof of livelihood:
    • A training allowance stated in your training contract or further education agreement
    • OR Formal obligation according to §§ 66-68 AufenthG with a confirmation of the declarant’s financial capacity by the local Immigration (“Ausländerbehörde”)
    • OR proof of a blocked bank account in your name with an amount of 927 / 964 Euro (vocational training / further education) multiplied by the number of months you wish to stay in Germany. For further information concerning a blocked account in Germany, please see here.
  • Your letter of motivation, stating the reasons for choosing your desired training in Germany and your intentions or considerations for the time after you have completed your training

  • Your school leaving certificate, other available diploma

  • Language requirements:
    • For a qualified vocational training in a state-recognized training occupation with a training period of at least two years (e.g. nurse, baker, hotel manager): B1 German certificate from an ALTE-certified language school (Goethe Institute, ÖSD, telc, Test DaF, ECL ). The certificate should not be older than one year OR alternatively A2 and a confirmation of your employer that the language skills required for the vocational training have been tested by the educational institution or are to be acquired through a preparatory German language course.
    • for a vocational training of less than two years or a further education: German certificate A2 from an ALTE-certified language school (Goethe Institute, ÖSD, telc, Test DaF, ECL) OR a confirmation of your employer, see above. The certificate should not be older than one year.
  • Proof of health insurance coverage
    • Certificate of the German statutory health insurance with indicated confirmation of the validity of the health insurance cover from entry coverage from the date of entry
    • OR a certificate from a private health insurance company with indicated confirmation of the validity of the health insurance coverage from the date of entry, if the type and scope of health insurance coverage corresponds to that of a statutory health insurance,
    • OR an incoming health insurance for the period between the arrival and start of employment subject to social security contributions, if the type and scope of health insurance coverage corresponds to that of a statutory health insurance.

In the case of a preparatory language course, please add:

  • Confirmation of a language school in Germany that you are registered and have paid for an intensive German language course
  • Proof of your health insurance covering your whole stay in Germany, see above.
  • Proof of livelihood, see above.

To speed up the process, we recommend having your employer apply for a pre-approval from the competent German employment authority (Bundesagentur für Arbeit) and to submit your visa application together with the pre-approval letter.
Alternatively, your employer in Germany can also submit an application for you in accordance with § 81a AufenthG (accelerated procedure for skilled workers) at the competent foreigners authority and then send you the preliminary approval of the foreigners authority (Fast Track Application).
You can apply without a pre-approval of German authorities. Approval will then be obtained during the visa process.

General information

Graduates from German schools abroad or holders of qualifications that entitle them to enter higher education and are under 25 years old and have good German language skills can apply for a visa for a stay of up to 6 months in Germany to look for a training place to carry out qualified vocational training.

Please submit the following documents for your application, one original with one copy of each original in paper format A4:

  • Your valid passport

  • One print-out of your duly filled and signed application form

  • Two biometrical passport photos, one of which glued to the application forms

  • Visa fee 75 Euro, payable in PHP

  • Your school-leaving certificate, proof of previous vocational training or studies.

  • Your CV in tabular form

  • Your letter of motivation, stating the reasons for choosing your desired training in Germany

  • If available proof of contacts to companies providing vocational training

  • German certificate B1 from an ALTE-certified language school (Goethe Institute, ÖSD, telc, Test DaF, ECL). The certificate should not be older than one year.

  • Proof of finance:
    • Formal obligation according to §§ 66-68 AufenthG with a confirmation of the declarant’s financial capacity by the local Immigration (“Ausländerbehörde”)
    • OR proof of a blocked bank account in your name with an amount of 1027 Euro per months of your stay in Germany. For further information concerning a blocked account in Germany, please see here.
  • Evidence of your rootedness in the Philippines:
    • If you are employed: Work contract, bank account statements showing the transfer of your last six-monthly salaries,
    • If you are self-employed: Proof of your registration and commercial activity of your company, income tax returns and bank account statements for the last six months.
    • If you own a property: Original land title.
    • If you are married and / or have minor children: PSA marriage / birth certificates.
    • If you already travelled to a Schengen country: Copy of your Schengen visas
  • Proof of accommodation in Germany
  • Proof of your health insurance coverage
    • Incoming health insurance in type and scope of health insurance coverage corresponding to that of a statutory health insurance, covering your whole stay in Germany.

  • Motivation letter in which you explain the reason for choosing the subject of your studies and for choosing the university in Germany

  • Proof of finance:
    • Formal obligation according to §§ 66-68 AufenthG with a confirmation of the declarant’s financial capacity by the local Immigration
    • OR proof of a blocked bank account in your name with an amount of EUR 934 per month or EUR 11,208 per year. For further information concerning a blocked account in Germany, please see here.
    • OR a scholarship from German public funds
  • Proof of health insurance coverage
    • Certificate of the German statutory health insurance with indicated confirmation of the validity of the health insurance cover from entry coverage from the start of semester
    • OR a certificate from a private health insurance company with indicated confirmation of the validity of the health insurance coverage from the start of semester if the type and scope of health insurance coverage corresponds to that of a statutory health insurance,
    • OR an incoming health insurance for the period between the arrival and start of semester if the type and scope of health insurance coverage corresponds to that of a statutory health insurance.

General information

If you have not yet received notification of admission to a university or foundation course, you should apply for a prospective student visa. This visa gives you the opportunity to meet the requirements for admission to a German higher education institution.

Please submit the following documents for your application, one original with one copy of each original in paper format A4:

  • One print-out of your duly filled and signed application form
  • Two biometrical passport photos, one of which glued to the application forms

  • Visa fee 75 Euro, payable in PHP

  • Your High School diploma and - if applicable - your diplomas from university

  • Proof of your entrance qualification for a German University, for example by UniAssist

  • Proof of language skills:

    • Confirmation of your registration for a preparatory German language course, stating the type and duration of the course
    • OR confirmation that the major you chose is in English language

Employees in healthcare professions without a fully recognized professional qualification as a nurse in Germany can apply for a residence permit to participate in a measure for the recognition of their professional qualification in Germany.

An employee without a fully recognized professional qualification in Germany can apply for a visa for employment within the framework of a recognition partnership for the recognition of their professional qualification in Germany. This is possible for regulated professions, e.g. in the healthcare sector, and for non-regulated professions, e.g. in the tourism sector, etc.

The recognition partnership is an agreement between an employer suitable for the training or post-qualification and the employee carrying out the recognition regarding suitable employment during the recognition procedure and the enabling of the recognition procedure and the necessary adaptation measures by the employee.

This also requires an employment contract for qualified employment until recognition of equivalence or the granting of a license to practice the profession. In the case of regulated professions, non-qualified employment is also possible.

The applicant must have either a two-year foreign professional qualification or a foreign university degree. The official recognition of the qualification where it was obtained must be confirmed by a German authority (KMK ZAB).

With an au pair stay with a host family in Germany, young people can deepen their knowledge of German and get to know German culture.
The requirements for an au pair stay in Germany from 6 to 12 months are as follows:
You are 18 to 26 years old when you submit your visa application and have A1 knowledge of the German language. The host family has at least one minor child and their communication language is German. There is no kinship between you and the host family.

An internship provides insights into everyday working life and serves to prepare for a career choice or to gain professional experience. Internships are to be distinguished from job shadowing and holiday jobs: job shadowing does not involve employment; holiday jobs don´t involve the thought of continuing education.

  4. Internship of skilled workers and executives receiving a scholarship from German public funds, European Union funds or the funds of international intergovernmental organizations,
  5. Internship with a duration of up to one year by mutual agreement with the Federal Employment Agency during a course of study at a foreign higher education institution after the fourth semester that relates to the degree subject, or
  6. Internship of pupils of German schools abroad with a duration of up to six weeks.

  • Your letter of motivation, stating the reasons for choosing your desired training in Germany and your intentions or considerations for the time after you have completed your training

  • Your school leaving certificate, evidence of previous professional training, studies and internships (only those with a minimum duration of 6 months)

  • German certificate from an ALTE-certified language school (Goethe Institute, ÖSD, telc, Test DaF, ECL) OR a confirmation of your employer that they have tested the language skills required for the internship and found them sufficient.

  • Proof of health insurance coverage
    • incoming health insurance in type and scope of health insurance coverage corresponding to that of a statutory health insurance, covering your whole stay in Germany
  • If applicable, proof of compulsory internship (certificate from university)

For a Study-related internship EU you must meet and provide evidence of the following additional requirements:

  • You are studying or have successfully completed your studies less than two years before you apply for a visa.
  • The internship must correspond technically to your studies.
  • Your internship contract with the receiving organization contains:
    • Description of the program for the internship including the educational objective or learning components,
    • Indication of the duration of the internship,
    • Conditions of work and supervision of the intern,
    • Working hours of the intern and
    • Legal relationship between the trainee and the receiving organization.
  • The internship company has submitted a declaration of commitment to cover your living and departure costs that may be incurred by public authorities. This is valid for up to six months after the end of the internship.

In the case of internships as part of exchange programs or subject-related internships, you must meet the following additional requirements:

  • You can present a certificate that the internship was arranged in the exchange program or by the university
  • You provide evidence of the mutual agreement of the Federal Employment Agency (Einvernehmen, applied for by the German employer), further information from the ZAV here.

Visas for intra corporate transfer are possible for three groups of employees.

Executives and specialists or trainees in international companies can apply for an ICT card for employment in the receiving company branch in Germany. Executives should lead the receiving branch or its departments. Company specialists have essential specialist knowledge of the areas of activity, the procedures or the administration of the host branch, a high level of qualifications and appropriate professional experience. Trainees have a university degree and undergo a paid trainee program for professional development or further training in business techniques and methods.

Academic professionals can apply for a visa to be deployed in Germany within the framework of a personnel exchange within an internationally active company or group.

Employees of an international company with qualifications comparable to German skilled workers can apply for a visa to work in Germany to prepare for projects abroad. For this, the preparatory project work in Germany must aim at the development of new products or the adaptation of the products and must be implemented abroad.

Crewmembers who will work as technical personnel on inland waterway vessels (e.g. cargo ships) in Germany for employment lasting more than 90 days and Crewmembers who will work as operating and service personnel in cross-border shipping on inland waterway passenger ships (e.g. river cruise ships) for a period of more than 90 days can apply for a national visa.

This also applies to crew members of floating LNG terminals (Floating Storage and Regasification Units) and associated shuttle tankers in German territorial waters, insofar as they are necessary for their operation and for ensuring their operability when handling and regasifying LNG.

Please note employees who will work in the Schengen area for a shorter period of no more than 90 days, please apply for a Schengen visa.

For cross-border employment on river cruise ships, you must lodge your application for your visa at the Consulate of the country where you will spend the longest period. If you intend to work as a member of an inland shipping crew in several Schengen States and the stays in the Schengen area will be of equal length, you must apply at the Consulate of the country where you will first board your assigned ship and start your employment.

Inland vessels operate on routes that run in German inland waters. The technical staff operates and ensures the operability of the ship.
